Lucy Scott-Moncrieff, CBE
Partner and Chair, Scott Moncrieff & Watt, PLLC
Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England & Wales, UK
Special Legal Consultant, DC Bar application pending
Lucy is the managing director of Scott-Moncrieff & Associates Ltd, a London law firm she started in 1987. Lucy created a new style of firm, presenting a modern approach to the office environment. Offering the flexibility of self-employment combined with an acceptable work/life balance.
Lucy specialised in mental health and human rights law, and for several years the firm enlarged gently into other areas of law as word of mouth spread about the freedoms and benefits of working for a ‘dispersed’ law firm.
More recently, Lucy has spoken and written widely on the benefits of this way of working, and the firm eventually largely expanded into private client and commercial work. As its growth has been incremental, Lucy has been able to ensure that the guiding principles of excellence in client service and a collegiate atmosphere within the firm have been maintained.
In addition to her work as a lawyer, Lucy was a Council member of The Law Society of England & Wales from 2002 -2022, was President of The Law Society during the 2012/13 term and subsequently Chair of its Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
In 2013, Lucy was honored by HM Queen Elizabeth II and the UK Government by being made a Commander of the British Empire (CBE).
She served as Commissioner for Standards for the House of Lords from 2016-2021, was a founding Co-Chair of the Legal Aid and Access to Justice Committee of the International Bar Association, was a commissioner with the UK Judicial Appointments Committee and, as well as being a current Tribunal Judge, Lucy also sits as a Judge in the Court of Protection.
Lucy has been a Mental Health Act Commissioner, was a founder member of the QC Appointments Panel, was a commissioner with Postcomm from 2008 to 2011, and is an associate with Verita, which carries out investigations on behalf of public bodies.
In 2019, Lucy was awarded the prestigious ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ by The Law Society for her outstanding contribution to the legal profession.
Lucy is a partner of Scott Moncrieff & Watt, PLLC and also serves as its Chair.
